Social Class Rules

Watching the movie about the different social classes was actually a little ridiculous. The lady who "taught" other people how to act like an upper class person? It's so sad, but it's so true. Most people are social climbers. Even if they aren't actively going out and taking lessons on how to climb the social ladder, I think it's safe to say that a lot of people want to be upper class. Especially in America, where we're instilled with the idea that you can achieve anything that you set your mind to here in the land of opportunity. Despite being taught that you can be anything you want to be, most people don't realize how little social mobility there actually is. The rich stay rich, and the poor stay poor. Sure, you might move from middle class to upper middle class, but you'll never truly be one of the old money elite. Every class has their own set of customs and rules, and nobody really understands unless their on the inside. Even that lady taking lessons on how to be high class would never truly be high class, no matter how good she got at perfecting the act. Social mobility is limited, if not impossible. It's ironic that a country based off of a "rags to riches" mindset actually has the greatest gap between it's wealthy and it's poor.
